Mamoru Yaotome discovered that the upperclassman in high school that he had always had a crush on, Shingo Akutagawa, had become an elite pilot after graduating from a military academy. Yaotome decided to follow in his footsteps by joining the Japan Air Self-Defense Force as a cadet and trained to be a mechanic.
