Some live in the deep darkness behind your eyelids. Some eat silence. Some thoughtlessly kill. Some simply drive men mad. They are known as mushi—creatures that came into being shortly after life emerged from the primordial ooze. They still exist parallel to our own lives and can only be seen by a select few. As a mushishi, Ginko is one of the few who are aware of their existense, and this young man with a sardonic smile roams from place to place with the knowledge and skill to aid those unwittingly affected by mushi.

The series was re-named to xxxHolic•Rou on chapter title pages of chapter 186 and on, but not on their volume's front covers, spines and indicia.
The chapter count contains a one-shot published in May 2010 to commemorate the switch, which was later collected into Volume 18.
The chapter count also reflects the magazine releases; the chapters plus the one-shot were re-arranged into 109 chapters across 19 volumes.

Ningyo no Mori

This is Rumiko Takahashi at her darkest, but her trademark humor and romance also pop up in this three-volume series. Legend has it that if a human eats a mermaid's flesh, they will be granted eternal life. But is that a blessing or a curse? Immortal lovers Yuta and Mana travel through Japan and the centuries longing for a normal life. On their journey, they meet others who have consumed the flesh of a mermaid in hope of becoming immortal. But the powerful substance affects each person differently. Yuta and Mana are two of the lucky ones. Others are fated to die or transform into a savage monster, a "lost soul."



This is the first volume of the Mermaid Saga series from the original tankoubon release, which includes the two-chapter stories "A Mermaid Never Smiles" (人魚は笑わない, Ningyo wa Warawanai), "The Village of Fighting Fish" (闘魚の里, Tōgyo no Sato), and "Mermaid Forest" (人魚の森, Ningyo no Mori Zenpen).

It's a story about a boy called the "Bear Killer", who meets a girl who has been chosen to become the guardian deity of her village.

Suna-kake (すなかけ, Covered in Sand)
The story of a young girl who meets a girl with a mysterious disease while on a trip to the ocean.

Le Pain et le Chat (The bread and the cat)
The story of a baker who decides to care for a girl whose parents have left her.

Imada Fuyu (未だ冬, Still Winter)
It's about a man who climbs a mountain that belongs to the gods, and is not made for man to climb.

Homunculus

Nakoshi Susumu, age 34, is living out of his car. An unnerving medical student is stalking him and offering to pay Nakoshi a significant sum to test trepanation: the ability to draw out a sixth sense by drilling into the skull. Nakoshi refuses. When Nakoshi’s beloved car is towed, though, he finally agrees to cash and the operating table. At first, the experiment seems to bear no fruit, and Nakoshi’s life is unchanged. That is, until Nakoshi realizes his vision has warped in his left eye…showing him the twisted homunculus inside every human.
